The vivid crimson stigma and styles, called threads, are collected and dried for use mainly as a seasoning and coloring agent in food. Saffron has long been the world’s costliest spice by weight. It is estimated that almost 3 lakh flowers need to be collected in order to yield 1 Kg of saffron.

How to Identify the Right saffron?

Saffron should be Thick from Head, Gradually Thin and Uniform

9

Only the Red Stigma portion should be present and yellow part should be separated

9

The color of the stigma should be Dark Crimson red throughout

9

The Texture of the Stigma should be such that it should not break and be stiff to touch

9

When soaked in water the color should not release immediately but slowly after few minutes.
